Find out more of the history of early Bognor, when Sir Richard Hotham set about transforming a small fishing village into a fashionable seaside resort. The Museum is run by the Bognor Regis Local History Society and has been in this building since 2011. Almost every aspect of Bognor’s history is represented, from rocks and fossils millions of years old, the local history before the town was founded through to the present day. The Bognor Regis Local History Society was founded in January 1979 and one of the first decisions made was that Bognor should re-instate its museum. The original museum closed in the late 1960′s and its exhibits passed onto museums in other surrounding towns. Eventually in 1983 with the support of Arun District Council and the Bognor Regis Town Council, the Society obtained Park Lodge in Hotham Park. On the 30th June 1984 the new Bognor Regis Museum officially opened its doors to the public. Open April – October, Tuesday – Sunday, plus Bank Holidays 10am – 4pm - Free admission. |
