Explore five floors of interactive history, science, games and much more… Sitting tall and proud like a stunning white lighthouse overlooking the Harbour of Whitehaven. The Beacon Museum tracks the social history of the local coastal area of The Lake District. Your visit covers 5 floors, inclusive of a harbour gallery with an annual program of National touring and temporary exhibitions along with local Cumbrian art installations. One of the highlight is the 4th floor gallery with its panoramic views over the Solway coast. See up to six different and amazing art or history exhibitions each year in the Harbour Gallery. The Harbour Gallery is the Beacon Museum’s temporary exhibition space and is located on the main entrance floor. Entry into the Harbour Gallery is FREE for most exhibitions*. Use the powerful telescopes, graphics, banners and displays of objects to find out about the town and harbour of Whitehaven, its development, its geology, its animals and plants and how to look out for them. There are helpful, easy to read flipbooks about the town’s harbour and historic buildings, a display and pictures.
