This historic castle has been the home of the Bishops of Durham for over 800 years, and today is the Bishop's official residence. The historic building, with its magnificent Chapel, Throne Room and Long Dining Room, is already the administrative centre for the Diocese, and a notable tourist attraction, as well as being the Bishop's home. Now, as part of an imaginative development programme a former self-contained flat , where Queen Victoria is reputed to have stayed, has been tastefully refurbished to provide excellent, fully equipped facilities for meetings and conferences. The Castle also has excellent facilities for weddings, concerts and social functions and the scale of charges is negotiable for charities or diocesan, ecumenical or education purposes. |
