Climb the Clock Tower (Big Ben)

The Clock Tower is the name of the famous tower of Parliament - more popularly known as Big Ben. UK residents can arrange a tour through their local MP. Overseas visitors cannot currently visit the tower.

Isn’t that Big Ben?

Yes. Although often referred to as Big Ben, this is actually the nickname of the bell housed within the Clock Tower – and Big Ben’s official name is the Great Bell.

The tour

Visitors to the Clock Tower will be shown up by a guide, who will outline the history of the tower, the bell and how the most accurate public clock in the world works.

Tours of the tower are free and open to UK residents who have requested a visit through their local MP. Children under the age of 11 are not permitted. When demand is high those with a proven interest in clocks or bells will be given preference. Tours for overseas visitors are currently not permitted.

Book in advance

Please note that it is not possible to queue on the day to tour the tower – advance bookings must be made through your MP.

Where do I go on the day?

Parties should gather in the foyer of Portcullis House ten minutes before their tour begins. A tour takes about one hour and visitors should feel confident in their health and fitness – please read our health and safety information before booking a tour.
