A well-preserved six storey tower house dating back to the 15th century. Its battlements command excellent views over Fleet Bay. Location 2km south west of Gatehouse of Fleet on the A75. From outside railway station take Stagecoach Western bus no 500 (Stranraer) to Gatehouse of Fleet Lanefoot opposite Road End (about 1 hr). Walk 9 mins to the Castle. There is no access for those using wheelchairs and the castle is not recommended for visitors with walking or breathing difficulties. At the top of the hill the ground levels out. Benches allow an opportunity to rest and enjoy the superb view and there is one interpretation board. A 30 degree ramp leads to the ground floor of the property but all staircases are spiral. There are some fine stone carvings which can be touched in the great hall, up one flight of stairs. Parking - The car park lies at the foot of a steep hill. Access to shop for wheelchair users.
