The principal parts of a small stone manor house, probably begun about 1370 for William Latimer, Sheriff of Somerset and Dorset. It has undergone many changes since, but the splendid timber roofs over the great hall and solar are said to be the most spectacular in Dorset. Read more about the history of Fiddleford Manor. BEFORE YOU GO Opening Times: Open daily, 10am-6pm from April to October, and 10am-4pm from November to March. Access: The manor is a short distance from the car park and can be reached via a grassed pathway. It is accessible by wheelchair. Parking: There is a large, free car park at the manor. Please Be Aware: The adjoining building is a private residence and is not open to visitors. The river edge is unfenced. A life ring is available for use in emergency situations. PLAN A GREAT DAY OUT Facilities, shops and food outlets are available a short drive away in Sturminster Newton. If you're planning to make a day of it, visit the remains of Sherborne Old Castle and its peaceful grounds, or head to Old Wardour Castle, where you can climb the tower, take an audio tour and pick up a souvenir in the well-stocked gift shop.
