Built on the north shore of the Isle of Wight to guard the Solent the remains of Fort Victoria now house a Marine Aquarium, a Sea Bed Archaeology Exhibition, a Planetarium and a Model Railway. The surrounding Country Park offers Seashore and Woodland walks and the site is one of the best vantage points for watching the Solents boats and shipping. The Forts attractions together with the availability of a Countryside Ranger to give guided walks of the seashore and woodland make Fort Victoria an excellent interesting and educational visit for school groups and any visitor to the Isle of Wight who wants to combine leisure with education. Planetarium: The Island Planetarium offers a fascinating journey through time & space; stimulating your imagination & mind, in our astrodome theatre & exhibition. This man-made Universe will take you places you have never been before, from the surface of the Moon to the depth of outer space in our ASTRODOME 360 STAR-THEATRE. Aquarium: Built into a series of arches which once housed huge cannons guarding the Solent the Aquarium concentrates mainly on the native fish and invertebrate life found around the Isle of Wight, most visitors are amazed that such a diversity can be found locally - from graceful rays to fearsome spider crabs, a favourite is the Cuttlefish, its skin literally pulsating with colour before your eyes. A separate section contains some inhabitants of tropical reefs - beautiful but venomous Lionfish, bizarre Seahorses, Pufferfish, Boxfish and a rather popular Clownfish! This venue also houses a large model railway for enthusiasts!
