Gorse Hill City Farm (registered charity no.1000575) covers 14 acres on the outskirts of Leicester City Centre. It is open every day of the year and receives over 40 000 visitors a year. The farm is home to a wide variety of animals including rare-breed pigs, cattle, sheep, guinea pigs and rabbits as well as a team of 5 human staff, 4 of whom are full time. The farm has been open for over 2 decades and is constantly developing and evolving. In 2006 we received a Heritage Lottery Grant which enabled us to develop a new open-fronted building which provides winter shelter and outdoor classroom facilities. Recently completed projects include additional signage and an audio trail for visitors to the farm as well as some changes to the fields to allow us to increase the animal headcount. Gorse Hill City Farm Is celebrating its Silver Jubilee! We’re open every single day of the year, from 10am!! Entrance to the farm is by donation (we suggest £2 for adults and £1 for children). Put your donation in the yellow milk churn on the farm gate!! This really helps toward the £150,000 we have to raise a year to keep the farm open and running. Come and meet the animals, relax in the gardens, stroll around the nature trail, let off steam in the children's play areas or simply stop by for a cuppa in the café. We'd love to see you!Gorse Hill practices small-scale humane farming and organic horticulture, and has four main principles:
We are open every day of the year! If you would like to get more involved, we have farm membership and animal adoption schemes - which help us raise the £50,000 we need each year. We also offer educational, volunteer and work placement opportunities for children and adults. Please get in touch if you would like more details. |
