BEFORE YOU GO Access: There are slopes and steps on the walk to the milecastle from Birdoswald. The walk is not strenuous but it is not suitable for wheelchairs. Parking: Charged car parking is available at Birdoswald Roman Fort, approximately a 10-15 minute walk away. The fee is refunded to visitors and members who visit Birdoswald. How to find it: Follow the Hadrian's Wall National Trail east of Birdoswald. PLAN A GREAT DAY OUT Harrow's Scar Milecastle and Wall is part of the Birdoswald Roman Trail. Harrow's Scar Milecastle is close to Birdoswald Roman Fort, and the section of wall between the two is one of the most popular sections of Hadrian's Wall. A tearoom and toilet facilities can be found at Birdoswald. Also nearby is Lanercost Priory. Its tranquil setting belies a troubled history - it suffered frequent attacks during the Anglo-Scottish Wars. Today you can see its beautiful cloisters, spot recycled Roman stonework and roam the ruins.
