There's so much more going on at Hinchliffe's Farm than our award winning Farm Shop and Restaurant ... The sound of leather, brass and chains, the clip clopping of hooves pulling a brewers dray along a cobbled street; sounds granddad would have heard 100 times a day. At the time of the 2nd world war there were five working farms in Honley village as well as many local industries and trades still using heavy horses. Yet unbelievably, thirty years later, the heavy horse faced extinction. Sadly now, for most, the heavy horse is no longer a reality but a nostalgic image in a series of romantic scenes with the ploughman out in the fields. Step back in time at Hinchliffe's and watch our magnificent Shires going about their work on the farm as in days gone by or better still sign up for a 'Heavy Horse Experience Day' and learn how to 'harness up' and harrow one of our fields yourself. Alternatively, if that sounds too energetic, why not enjoy a leisurely ride in a waggonnette followed by a delicious cream tea in our restaurant. |
