House of Marbles
Explore the 4000 year history of glass, learn how glass is made and view master craft works from over the centuries, then watch them at work over an elevated view platform!
Plus hit the retro button for mum and dad (and nan and grandad!) and look through the collection of board games, marble games and bagatelles from the early 1600s.
Most children will come out with renewed pride in their own more modern collection but you'll love it!
Then the main event, we think you'll find with kids: press the buttons and watch the marbles whoosh through the metal runs! Four can be found in the museum areas and then see 'Snookie' the largest marble run in the United Kingdom and possibly the world! Take a camera, preferably with video functions, you'll kick yourselves later if not!
A new play structure for 3 to 12 year olds was constructed recently and offering loads of adventure play equipment in loads of space it has naturally become a very popular feature for families!
Plus enjoy the fresh air and your picnic in the courtyard garden where the giant floating marble is the centrepiece. Skittles, chess, giant jericho and of course marbles are on offer for a little healthy family competition (go mum!).
