The shop specialises in Winnie-the-Pooh and is home to the world's largest selection of "Pooh-phernalia". Husband and wife team, Mike and June Ridley run the family business together with the help of a dedicated team of staff. Mike created the Pooh Corner shop in 1978 and met Christopher Robin Milne on a number of occasions. Prior to becoming a shopkeeper Mike had worked one half of his career as a pottery manufacturer. For the other half he had worked as the Health Education Technical Services Advisor for both the Health and Education Departments of East Sussex County Council. When he became self employed in 1977 he used his skills as a potter to manufacture Winnie-the-Pooh ceramics under licence from Disney – with whom he held a licence for over 10 years. June has a background in Insurance. Some years ago she qualified as a glass artist and has achieved great success working in her few spare moments, creating beautiful works of art for the house and garden. If you have time for ‘A Little Something' you will find inside Pooh Corner the Piglit's Tea Room and Garden where you can enjoy a ‘Smackeral' or two; with delicious cream-teas, cakes, savoury snacks, fruit juices, coffee and teas. Pooh Corner gives information about the real Winnie-the-Pooh locations and the famous Poohsticks Bridge. You will need to discover all the Pooh Places after you arrive in Hartfield so remember to buy a Guide Sheet or a fully illustrated Guide Booklet. With literally thousands of items and souvenirs it seems the most natural thing in the world for this shop to be situated in Hartfield where the famous stories were written by A.A.Milne in the 1920's. There are no charges to visit Pooh Corner or any of the real Pooh Places and they are open to the public throughout the year. Pooh Corner is open from 9am to 5pm Mondays to Saturdays. On Sundays and Bank Holidays the shop is open from 10.30am to 5pm. Piglit's Tea Room is open a little later and closes at 4.30pm. The Shop and Tea-room are closed 25th and 26th December. |
