This great little family-friendly Museum has two fun and fact-packed biographical galleries and a fantabulous Story Centre. In Boy and Solo galleries, visitors can delve into Dahl’s archive on touch-screen monitors and learn about the events and experiences that shaped him as a writer. Get creative with plot, character and words in the Story Centre with the hands-on displays and pick up writing tips from Dahl and other top writers. Explore a replica of Dahl’s famous Writing Hut, sit in his writing chair and get some gloriumptious story ideas. In the school holidays and at weekends, Miss Honey’s Classroom offers workshops about everything from chocolate to comic strips (see website for full listings; additional charges may apply). Holiday and weekend visitors are also offered free storytelling sessions or the chance to get arty doing free craft activities. The Museum Shop is a treasure trove of Dahl-related merchandise: books, toys, quirky gifts and pocket-money items. Café Twit serves a delumptious family-friendly range of sandwiches, jacket potatoes and home-made cakes and cookies. The Shop and Cafe are open to museum visitors and the general public. Matilda this February half-term. Make a mini Miss Trunchbull out of
clay or use some jumbly junk to create your own Matilda-style tricks.
Take a peek behind the scenes and see some tricksy treasures from the
archive or join in with a Matilda drama workshop and attempt to tell the
story in one minute! Visit the very library Roald Dahl imagined Matilda
visiting on our special guided walks or just enjoy the Crunchem Hall
primary school games in the courtyard.
Enjoy Matilda storytelling throughout the week, find the pesky pigtails
around the Museum, and explore the galleries with our Marvellous Matilda
Challenge. Head to the craft room and help fill the creative wall with
your child heroes or try out some optical illusions and tricks in the
pop-up Magical Mind-Bending Room.
Feeling peckish after all that excitement? Then enjoy some pizzas from
Pizzaficio who’ll be serving fresh, homemade pizzas in the courtyard all
week. Yum!
Museum entry costs £7.95 per person for visitors aged 5 years and over.
All Museum entry tickets include re-entry for a whole year! Under 5s are
free. Storytelling and trails included with Museum admission, other
activities are an additional cost and running on selected days.
