Nature of EnquiryDate: 21/01/13 Request for a Raffle Prize Hi, We are looking for kind donations of a Meal voucher for four/six or eight that can be used as raffle prizes for a race night to help send Jade a young lady on a trip of a lifetime. Money raised at these events will be used for both the Muscular Dystrophy charity and also to send a young local lady with the disability on a trip of a life-time. Jade is 21, and suffers with a muscle wasting disease (FSHMD -Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy). FSHMD initially affects the Skeletal muscles of the face (facio), scapula (scapulo) andupper arms (humeral). Jade has a progressive skeletal muscle weakness which has developed in other areas of the body also, resulting in Jade being among the 15% of affected individuals who have become wheelchair dependant. Jade is such a wonderful and smart individual who has always found an inner strength to fight her way through life regardless of the difficulties and challenges life throws at her. At the young age of 4 she was diagnosed with having FSHMD which came as a huge shock to our parents. She lived the life of a normal active child up until the age of 12 when she slipped on some ice outside the house on returning from a family night out at the pictures and broke her ankle. It was from that point that Jade became reliant on her wheelchair for independence and mobility. Jade, despite her condition was a very bright individual and attended The Kings Academy, a mainstream school where she and when on to achieve her GCSE’s at a good grade, allowing her to go onto sixth form, then Middlesbrough College and now onto Teesside University where she is currently studying Criminology and Physiology. Jade is a wonderful young woman with such a positive attitude to life and I am so proud to have Jade as my sister. She never uses her disability as a ‘copout’ and certainly doesn’t see why it should stop her doing the things of every other young woman her age. More recently, overnight, Jade developed breathing difficulties. She was rushed to James Cook University Hospital where she received a high level of care and was place on a Bipap machine (a mode of respiratory ventilation) to assist her breathing. It was touch and go and we were told to prepare for the worst as Jade was not expected to make it through the week. Jade, being Jade, put up her usual fight knowing that she still has a lot of living to do, proved all the doctors wrong and pulled through. The holiday is one of the number of items on her “bucket list”, she knew she has to fight for.Jade now has to wear the Bipap machine every night while she sleeps. This helps to remove the CO2 which builds up in her lungs. As time goes on, Jade will become more and more dependent on the Bipap machine. Given this we are doing our utmost to assist Jade with achieving her goals and dreams. I really hope The Coulby Farm Pub can be part of this event so we can help Jade and would also like to thank you so much for taking the time to read this and hopefully helping us. If you are able to help please send your donation direct to myself at 43 Hallgarth Close, Acklam, Middlesbrough TS5 8SX; or call me on 07714790979 and I will be happy to collect them in person.
