Nature of EnquiryDear GSL, I hope you don't mind me contacting you but I have been told that your group has a group badge, worn on the point of the scarf or elsewhere on uniform, and I am interested in this for the following reason. I have for a number of years tried to build up records on the badges worn by Groups, former VSUs, current ESUs, Network and Fellowship/Active Support Units and the Groups and Units that wear them, as virtually nothing is on record as far as I am aware, either at National or County level. I feel that the many badges worn by Groups etc should be recorded and I wonder therefore whether you would be willing to help me on this. I would like if possible, to buy two examples of your group badge and two examples of your group nametape, if I may. One set is used to scan them into my records to give a coloured picture of the actual items and they then go into my backup collection. The other set is for a very good friend of mine, also a retired Scouter, who helps me with badges and information for my records, who also collects badges. I now have knowledge of around 1200 badges, and I would dearly like to include yours in my records. I shall eventually send them to the archives at HQ, for use by anyone who may be interested in this aspect of a group’s history in the future. My interest in these started when I was an ACSL with our local group, which also has a group badge. I am 69 now and no longer active with the group, but my interest in group badges remains with me, as there is often an interesting story behind the design of these. I hope that you may find some merit in what I am trying to do, and if so, that you will be able to help me, in the spirit of Scouting, carry on my project of recording these, and that I may hear from you when you have time. Yours in Scouting Fred Fred Eardley 89, Brown Ave, Church Lawton, Stoke-on-Trent, ST7 3ER
