This is a booming national centre for the collection, conservation, interpretation and study of material relating to the history of working people in Britain. A bit of a mouthful but what it means is studies of industry and employment in our country, with interesting information about long forgotten jobs and curious callings. Information about their personal and professional struggles, and the disparity, sometimes truly shocking, between rich and poor, may worry the kids a bit, but that's right, isn't it... There's some really significant learning opportunities here with captivating presentations but although the data can be quite disturbing in terms of fairness and equality it's not harrowing or upsetting to the average kid. Nonetheless probably best to take over 6s who aren't terribly sensitive, and you'd still better be ready for them to start campaigning for fair trade once they're home! Admission: Admission is free to all! Opening Times: Open Monday through Sunday, 10am to 5pm. Open bank holiday Mondays.
